The whole nation was excited when Ghana chose the path of democratic governance two decades ago.
This has gone a long way to yield an enviable result across the African Continent and beyond, and we have been commended for the practice and the adoption of this democratic rule.
The practice of democracy involves the expression of thoughts, ideas and feelings towards the advancement of a nation.
However, Ghana’s democracy has now turned into the practice of occultism. Why?
This was clearly seen in the 2012 general elections when a political party with the emblem of an umbrella distributed cars, clothes, monies among other things to electorates and compelled them to swear on their lives that they would cast their votes for the party.
Unfair play of democracy was evidently witnessed in the 2012 December polls when electorates were bought with worldly materials.
I don’t care about the colossal monies used to purchase the items given out, but my concern is with the way the items were distributed.
It could be noted that in the 2012 American elections, the incumbent president, Barrack Obama who was then a presidential candidate solicited one dollar (1$) each from the populace to support his campaign.
It was realized that because the electorates wanted Obama to lead them, they supported him with the 1$ project and the Democrats found themselves occupying the White house again after the polls.
Ghanaian electorates have allowed themselves to be goofed and deceived by a charlatan political party because of peanuts to feed their bellies today and permitted them to play on their intelligence and conscience. Never again.
Fellow compatriots, it is about time we gather wisdom and begin to discourage the act of unscrupulous swearing in our political terrain during election campaigns.
Elections are about policies, promises and issues but not forcing voters to undergo any form of occult intimidations.
It is God who enthrones and dethrones Kings and we must know that Ghana has chosen a democratic path. Our relentless efforts are required to promote the good image of this country but not to defame it.
